What is a Community Engagement Consult?

Consultation services for academic researchers and study team members regarding ethical issues that arise in preparation for and/or in the process of doing research with and in community. Community Engagement Consults address research across the translational research spectrum (T1-T4 research) that addresses any/all stages of the research process.

What should you expect?

Consultation sessions are led by the Partnership for Academicians and Communities in Translation (PACT) Community Engagement Consults Committee – which is a community/university partnership. During your consultation you will meet with relevant community and/or academic experts comprised of members from the PACT. Additional content experts may be invited to support the relevance of the session to the needs of the investigator.

1. Come prepared to share 5-10 minutes about your study and what your general questions are for the group
2. Engage in discussion with the consultants present
3. Ensure the PI is able to attend the consultation

Please note: These consultations should not be solely focused on immediate recruitment. The intention of this service is not to supply direct contacts or conduct recruitment on your behalf. Instead, this service is to talk through high level community engagement strategies, help craft a community engagement plan, or talk through issues unrelated to recruitment.

Community Engagement Consult Request

The CCTSI Community Engagement Core and the ACCORDS Education Program are partnering to offer a forum for investigators and study teams conducting community/stakeholder-engaged research. The Community Engagement Forum will run quarterly and include brief seminars from leading engagement scholars and community research partners. Additionally, this will serve as a learning community for sharing best practices and lessons learned. The forum will be geared towards supporting investigators and study teams throughout design, conduct and dissemination of engaged research. For all future forum dates, please visit our Events page.

Colorado Immersion Training

CIT is for researchers from all disciplines seeking new skills and knowledge in community engaged translational research. Junior faculty, early career researchers and doctoral students are encouraged to apply. 

Learn core principles of community-based participatory research and community engaged translational research.

Develop skills to engage community partners in research.

Spend time in a local Colorado community to learn first-hand about the community and begin relationship-building.

Pilot Grant Program

CE Pilot Grants

Community Engagement pilot grants to strengthen community-academic partnerships for translational research. Eligible grants support:

• ​​12-month Joint pilot projects proposed by established community-academic partnerships, or
• 9-month Partnershop Development grants for new community-academic partnerships.

Pilot Grantee Training

Prepares CCTSI Community Engagement Pilot Grantees with basic knowledge of community-based participatory research principles and partnership development.

The Community Clinical Trials Advisory Board (CCTAB) is composed of researchers, community members, and academicians.

Mission Statement

Through authentic, equitable, and informed engagement, we strive to create an experience between communities and researchers that increases the diversity of participants in clinical research.

Objectives

• To advance health literacy related to community participation in clinical trials by providing education to community and cultural competence to researchers.
• To strengthen the protection of, respect for, and empowerment of participants in clinical trials
• To improve the relevance and quality of clinical research and its usefulness to communities
• To ensure that research questions reflect a major concern of community members as well as offering realistic solutions to these questions
• To enhance the relevance and application of research data by all participants
• To value the different skills, knowledge and experience of community members and researchers to address complex problems

The CCTAB is composed of researchers, community members, and academicians. Through authentic, equitable, and informed engagement, we strive to create an experience between communities and researchers that increases the participation of clinical research with the ultimate goal of improving research relevance for all communities. We envision a research community that is inclusive of diverse participants, staff, investigators and partners that reflect the needs and disparities of the State of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
