The Partnership of Academicians and Communities for Translation (PACT) transforms health research to balance power and responsibility between community, clinicians and researchers to improve the health of the people of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
Our governing body, paid community liaisons, pilot grants and training programs, in conjunction with people from the communities we serve, work together to improve the health of people in Colorado and the surrounding region. PACT is our umbrella community program overseeing the Community Engagement research activities of the CCTSI and our many partners.
We have engaged 20 existing community-academic partnerships, which encompass more than four million community members, including those from rural areas and various population groups with differing backgrounds.

The Partnership of Academicians and Communities for Translation (PACT) encompasses more than 20 Colorado communities, 940 physician practices, 28 hospitals, eight focus communities, eight Community Research Liaisons who are embedded in the focus communities, community engagement pilot grant awardees, faculty and staff participants from the Colorado Immersion Training in Community Engagement (CIT) program and a group of core staff dedicated to supporting the PACT and Community Engagement.

PACT Community Research Liaisons
Bridging research, practice, & community through equitable partnerships
PACT Community Research Liaisons reside in the communities they serve and are trained in CBPR and translational research. They establish partnerships between academic researchers and community members and serve as facilitators, ambassadors, and educators. CRLs educate others about the purpose and value of equitable, participatory research partnerships.

Montelle Taméz is the Deputy Director of Community Engagement at the University of Colorado’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) where she co-leads the CCTSI’s Community Engagement (CE) Core, which aims to build capacity in community-academic research partnerships to improve the translation of scientific discoveries into interventions and programs that improve health in communities. Before joining the CCTSI in 2009, Ms. Tamez worked for the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment’s Prevention Services Division, where she specialized in community-based initiatives to promote chronic disease prevention, screening and treatment. While at the health department, Ms. Taméz co-lead the Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease Competitive Grants Program. Ms. Tamez began her public health career at the American Cancer Society (ACS) as a Cancer Control Specialist, developing and implementing community-based tobacco control initiatives. Ms. Tamez worked closely with external partners and coalitions to pass legislation that made Colorado smoke free. In this role, Ms. Tamez also worked in the community as a health educator, promoting cancer prevention, screening and treatment. Ms. Tamez co-authored the American Cancer Society’s You Can Quit smoking cessation program, developing a train-the-trainer model, which she implemented in businesses, community-based organizations, primary care clinics and hospitals throughout the state.
